Fishing boats and a few yachts in the harbour, a town square with teahouses and restaurants in which one can hear half a dozen languages spoken, inexpensive pensions and hotels, classical ruins scattered about: this is Kas, the quintessential Turkish seaside town.
Kas is pleasent in itself and makes an ideal base for boat excursions to several fascinating spots along the coast.
A well - preserved ancient theatre is about all that's left of ancient Antiphellus, which was the Lycian town here. Also, on the sheer rock mountain wall above the town are a number of Lycian rock tombs, which are illuminated at night.
Special Events: The Kas Lycia Festival runs for three days at the end of June every year, featuring folk dancing trouped from around the country and sometimes international acts as well.
Climate
Summers are hot and dry in Kas, quite typical of Mediterranean region, and can reach around 35 degrees during the day. Winters are warm during the day although can get cool at night, and can drop below 10 degrees.
