Mükerrem Taskapilioglu was born in Ankara, Turkey in 1950. She maintained a deep interest in art and art forms for many years, before deciding to fully develop her talents. She officially began her artistic career by taking art classes in 1986 at the Turkish National Library.
Her classwork included courses in illumination, marbling, and tiles.
She received her certificate in 1989, and then began her research on artistic gilding in the museums and libraries of Istanbul and Ankara.
She co-published (along with classmates) a book called “Bordering in Gilding” in 1991. She also attended illumination classesfor three years in the Department of Art at Istanbul's Marmara University for 3 years. Not only has her coursework honed her physical skills, it also has given her a solid historical background, from which she is able to draw frequent inspiration.
Over the years, Mukerrem has had numerous art works selected by the jury for exhibition in National Art Exhibits. She also participated in invited exhibits both nationally and internationally. Her works can be found in the National Library in Ankara and in the archives of the Turkish Ministry of Culture. The Turkish American Association of California invited her to California for a series of exhibitions in 1999. Due to the success of that tour, she has since been exhibiting her art work in many different cities in California.
